43 candidates file nominations on Tuesday, total rises to 69 so far
New Delhi: Chief Minister Atishi , All India Mahila Congress president and former MLA Alka Lamba , and serving Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti were among 43 candidates who filed their nominations on Tuesday. So far, 69 candidates have filed their nominations while the election commission has received 85 sets of documents, as several candidates file multiple sets of nomination papers.
Atishi, who took out a roadshow on Monday but didn't file her nomination, went to the office of the returning officer of Kalkaji to deposit her documents. "On Makar Sankranti, I filed my nomination from Kalkaji with a resolve to carry forward Arvind Kejriwal 's vision of honest politics," she said. The Delhi CM is pitted against Lamba and former BJP MP from south Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri.
Before filing the nomination, Lamba inaugurated her election office at the Kalkaji assembly constituency. Former Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra was also present. After submitting her papers, Lamba said, she was fighting a battle for the people of Delhi.
Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti also took out a roadshow. The three-time AAP MLA said, "Over the past 12 years, I haven't earned money; I've earned people's hearts." In Shahdara, AAP MP from Punjab, Raghav Chadha, joined Jitender Singh Shunty, as the Padma Shri awardee filed his nomination. TNN
