BBC Casualty Christmas special confirmed with dramatic teaser hinting at major character exit

BBC has announced the return of Casualty for its next series, set to hit screens at the end of the year with a bang, commencing in December with a festive Christmas special.

The season finale ended with a tantalising teaser trailer, leaving viewers speculating wildly about what the drama-fuelled upcoming season may entail.

An snippet was revealed at the end of Saturday's double-bill finale, where fans were given just a glimpse into the future excitement and suspense.

Against the iconic soundtrack of The Fairytale of New York, a mysterious hand is seen retrieving a blood bag from a fridge, one notably adorned with a Christmassy bow.

The scene transitioned to a hospital bed submerged in snow, amidst chaotic medical equipment, leading to a heart monitor flatlining.

Blood-soaked footprints and a uniform lying on the ground next to an open blood box amplified the tension before zooming out to reveal a room engulfed by a snowy scene.

As the screen faded to darkness, the bold declaration "Casualty back this Christmas" emerged, setting the stage for an unconventional and possibly grim holiday narrative.

The BBC said: "The Christmas special will celebrate the gift of giving and will be told in an innovative, format-breaking way. Further details will be revealed in due course."

Despite the scant details provided, the chilling trailer hints at potential doom for a cherished character on the beloved drama.

Fans were quick to express their theories and emotions on Twitter following the cryptic teaser's debut, reports Wales Online.

One viewer expressed their anticipation, saying: "The paramedic jacket [sic]. I don't think I can wait till Christmas."

Someone else commented: "Nooo.. that's why it was a double bill tonight then @BBCCasualty. Can't wait til Christmas... that's ages away #Casualty That ending [sic]."

"THAT ENDING," tweeted another fan.

One viewer shared: "Omg I have chills this is scary but I can't wait! Have to wait MONTHS again."

While another added: "Protect Jan, Teddy, Iain and Jacob at all costs."

Someone asked: "Looks like a paramedic is gonna be dead in the Christmas special...but who?"

The series finale was packed with dramatic scenes and emotional moments as Siobhan McKenzie finally uncovered the truth.

In gripping scenes, it was revealed her friend Stevie Nash was the person who had been seeing her husband Rich Walker.

Despite Stevie quickly ending the affair after discovering who he was married to, the damage was already done.

As the pair spoke during the episode, it was evident the damage had been done as Stevie tried to apologise repeatedly.

Siobhan told her: "I can be professional, I might even manage polite, but we're not friends not, anymore."

Will the pair be able to repair their friendship in the upcoming series?

Casualty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
