DA Hike: To deal with the ever-rising inflation, the government has increased DA by 36 percent in the last three years, i.e. between July 2021 and July 2024.

DA Hike: From now on, every central government employee will be paid 53 percent dearness allowance...

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet, giving a Diwali gift to all its employees, officers and pensioners working under the 7th Pay Commission, approved a three percent increase ( DA Hike

) in Dearness Allowance or DA, which will come into effect from July 1, 2024 as per the rules, and not only will the increased DA be given in the October salary, but the arrears (DA Arrear) of three months - July, August and September - will also be paid. To deal with the ever-increasing inflation, the government revises the dearness allowance given to its employees twice every year, which come into effect from July 1 and January 1. These revisions are usually announced in March around Holi and in October around Diwali.

Now every officer and employee of the Central Government and every pensioner will be paid 53 percent DA instead of 50 percent from July 1, 2024. DA is actually paid on the basis of basic salary. This increase means that from now on every employee will be given 53 percent of his basic salary as DA, which till now was 50 percent of the basic salary.

At that time, only 17% DA was available...

But did you know, a few years ago when the pandemic of coronavirus and the disease caused by it, COVID-19, spread across the world, every central government employee in India was given a dearness allowance of 17% of the basic salary, and there was no revision in the DA amount for one and a half years, i.e., for three revision cycles.

Till December 2019, all the officers, employees and pensioners of the Central Government who were getting salary on the basis of 7th Pay Commission were getting 17 percent dearness allowance and dearness relief, but after that, due to COVID-19, there was no amendment or increase in dearness allowance for three times, i.e. for one and a half years, and till June 2021, all the officers and employees continued to get only 17 percent dearness allowance.

14% increase in DA implemented from July 2021

After this, when the outbreak of COVID subsided, in July 2021, the Narendra Modi government at the Center increased the dearness allowance by 11 percent, making it 28 percent. A few days later, in October 2021, DA was also increased by an additional 3 percent, and this increase was also implemented from July 1, 2021, so, as a result, every central officer-employee and pensioner got 31 percent DA on salary and pension from July 1, 2021.

Total 7% increase in DA in 2022

After this, in January 2022, the dearness allowance was again increased by 3 percent as a routine increase, and now all central officers-employees and pensioners started getting 34 percent dearness allowance. After that, in July of the same year, DA was increased by 4 percent, and DA for all became 38 percent.

Then DA was increased by 12% in one and a half year

Thereafter, in January 2023 also, an increase of 4% in dearness allowance was announced, and it was made 42% of the basic salary. Then in July 2023 and January 2024 also, DA was increased by 4% each time, as a result of which all central employees-officers and pensioners started getting 50% dearness allowance and dearness relief from January 2024.

Now DA will be 53% of the basic salary

Now on Wednesday, the central government has announced a 3 percent increase in DA, after which every central employee will be given 53 percent dearness allowance, so, if you look carefully, to deal with the ever-increasing inflation, the government has increased the DA by 36 percent in the last three years, i.e. between July 2021 and July 2024.
