No gold jewellery can indeed be completely pure i.e. 100 percent pure. The reason for this is that gold is a very soft metal. It is necessary to adulterate it to make jewelry. It cannot be prepared without adulterating it with another metal.

How to measure the purity of gold by carat
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has divided the purity of gold into 6 categories. When you go to buy jewelry, the goldsmith asks you which carat you want.
