Vidya Balan recreates MS Subbulakshmi's iconic style

The tribute captures Vidya in a series of elegant poses, adorned with traditional elements such as the mookuthi (nose stud), pottu, and vibrant sarees. Each aspect of her look pays homage to the essence of Subbulakshmi, whose voice and style have inspired generations.

One of the standout pieces from the shoot is the iconic blue saree, which was sourced from the original weaver Nalli Chinnasami Chetty in Chennai. This saree, along with others, was carefully recreated to reflect Subbulakshmi’s unique sartorial choices.

The tribute also features a striking magenta saree with an orange border, woven specifically for the occasion by D Srinivasan from Sri Balavinayagar Silks. This particular sari was worn by the singer during the 1968 Sadas at The Music Academy in Chennai, where she was honored with the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi award.

Vidya also wore the beautiful Ramar Pacchai (green) sari with a mustard yellow border, skillfully recreated by weaver D Srinivasan.

Attention to details shared in BTS video

The meticulous attention to detail extends to her accessories, including the size of her ring and the exact shade of kumkum on her forehead, making the tribute feel authentic and respectful. Her team has emphasised that this tribute is not just a superficial imitation but a profound appreciation for Subbulakshmi’s artistry. Vidya’s portrayal of the iconic singer shows a blend of reverence and elegance, making it a treat to the eyes for fans of both the actress and the legendary vocalist.

In her heartfelt message, Vidya expressed her joy in being able to honor MS Subbulakshmi, also known as the “Queen of Music” by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the “Nightingale of India” by Sarojini Naidu.

Through this tribute, Vidya Balan not only celebrates the legacy of a remarkable artist but also highlights the rich cultural heritage that MS Subbulakshmi represents.
