Jio faces network outage, netizens take a dig as #JioDown goes viral

It was a troublesome Tuesday for Jio users across India as the telecom network reported an outage on social media platforms. As users faced a problem in connectivity, social media channels were filled with tweets and memes, describing their status.

Down Detector, a tracking website, indicated a dramatic increase in problem complaints around noon. According to Down Detector, Jio users reported 10,367 network errors by 12:18 p.m. today (September 17, 2024). This was up from 653 reports at 11.13 a.m. and seven reports at 10 a.m. today.

Netizens react to the Jio outage

Several individuals turned to microblogging network X (previously known as Twitter) to vent about the problem. Others reported they couldn't make calls, while some said they couldn't send or receive texts via their Jio numbers. A number of users also reported that they were unable to connect to the mobile internet.

As previously said, Jio consumers have raised concerns about the issue on X using the hashtag 'Jiodown'. Here are a few reactions:

"Pathetic Network. All we see from Jio is a network outage. Now why is there a frequent outage #jiodown?”

Some commented, "I am writing to inform you that there is now an outage impacting both Fibre and Jio SIM in Mumbai. The outage has been going on for almost an hour, and I'm reaching out to see if anyone has started trying to address it."

"Mukesh Ambani naraz hain #JioDown #JioOutage," another user wrote.

Jio’s signal woes

This is not the first instance that Jio Down has emerged as a trend on X. Last month, Jio customers complained about signal troubles and mobile internet that did not work. Not only that, Jio also experienced some minor technical glitches that disconnected its subscribers from the internet and cell signal.

Price hike for users

Earlier in July, Reliance Jio announced a 12-27 per cent increase in call charges, as well as a restriction on subscribers' access to unlimited free 5G services. The new charges started on July 3, 2024, and the company announced that it was the first time that tariffs were being raised in two-and-a-half years.
