To travel by train, you just have to book a train ticket after which you can travel, but sometimes for some reason, people have to cancel their train tickets. In such a situation, if you are also canceling your train ticket, then you must first know about the rules of ticket cancellation by Indian Railways. If you do not do this, then you do not get a refund i.e. you can get zero rupees. So let's know what are the rules for ticket cancellation. Passengers can know about this in the next slides...
What does the Indian Railway rule say about ticket cancellation?
Do not cancel the ticket after the chart is prepared
If you have booked a train ticket to travel somewhere and for some reason, you have to cancel that ticket, then know that do not cancel the train ticket after the chart is prepared. If you do this, then you do not get a single rupee refund. This is not what we say, but what the Indian Railway rule says.
Know here that the chart is prepared by the railway four hours before the train starts (from where the train starts its journey). This chart contains information about which seat has been given to which passenger. In such a situation, if you cancel your train ticket after the chart is prepared, then you get a zero rupees refund, but if you cancel the train ticket before the chart is prepared, then you are given a refund.
How much money do you get as a refund?
As you cancel a train ticket before the chart is prepared, you are given a refund by the railways. However, how much money you will get back is decided by time. You can understand it like this if you cancel a ticket 10 days before the journey, then you can get more money back. Whereas, if you cancel a train ticket 1 day before, you can get less money back in a refund.
Rule of confirmed Tatkal ticket
Indian Railways gives passengers the facility to book train tickets even a day before the journey, which is called Tatkal ticket. If you have booked a confirmed Tatkal train ticket and you cancel it, then you get zero rupees in refund, that is, no refund is given to you by the railways. On the other hand, if a waiting Tatkal ticket is booked and it is not confirmed, then it gets canceled automatically in the remaining money of the ticket is refunded to you after deducting the service charge.
