Intel has unveiled its latest innovation, the Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V-series processors for laptops and other mobile devices.

The new chips boast an unprecedented x86 power efficiency and are equipped with the world's fastest mobile CPU cores.

They also promise a gaming performance that is 30% faster than their rivals.

This launch signifies a potential turning point for Intel in the mobile chip market, where they have lagged behind competitors like Qualcomm and AMD.

Lunar Lake processors outperform competitors in power consumption
Efficiency

The Lunar Lake processors significantly outperform their predecessors, with a 50% reduction in package power consumption.

This improvement translates into double the performance per watt and an impressive battery life of up to 20.1 hours.

These figures surpass Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite by nearly two hours and AMD's rival chips by almost four hours, highlighting Intel's advancements in energy efficiency.

Intel's Lunar Lake processors now available for pre-orders
Availability

The new Intel Core Ultra 200V-series chips are now open for pre-orders in OEM systems from a broad spectrum of Intel's partners.

The first batch of these units is scheduled to start shipping on September 24.

At the event, Intel showcased a range of OEM laptops and provided numerous benchmark demonstrations to substantiate its claims about the new processors' performance.

Tech specs

The Lunar Lake processors are part of the Core Ultra 200-series and carry a new 'V' suffix to indicate their new architecture.

The series includes nine different SKUs, all featuring four single-threaded Lion Cove P-cores and four single-threaded Skymont E-cores with varying clock speeds.

These range from a boost of 4.5GHz to 5.1GHz, along with on-package memory capacities of either 16GB or 32GB running at LPDDR5X-8533.

GPU features

The new chips come with Intel's Arc 100V-series integrated GPU engines that use the Xe2 architecture.

These engines have either seven or eight Xe2 cores/ray tracing units operating at peak frequencies ranging from 1.85GHz to 2.05GHz.

This variation in clock speeds also impacts the amount of AI TOPS available from the XMX engine per model, which Intel has listed as ranging from 53 to 67 TOPS.

Lunar Lake processors support advanced connectivity options
Connectivity

The Lunar Lake chips support five lanes of PCIe 4.0 and four lanes of PCIe connectivity, likely to be used for any system that comes with a discrete GPU.

The chips also support up to six USB 2 and two USB 3 ports.

Other features include integrated Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, Bluetooth v5.4, and LE audio.
