Scientists have developed a new technology to solve this problem.

How does the new technology work?

According to a TOI report, a team of scientists (led by Rahul Kumar Verma) has developed micro nanoparticles called chitosan nano-aggregates. These nanoparticles are made from chitosan, which is a biodegradable and biocompatible material. These nano-aggregates are specifically designed to be delivered to the brain through the nose. TB drugs such as isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) can be loaded into these nano-aggregates. According to the official statement, by administering the drug through the nose, these nano-aggregates can deliver the drug directly to the brain, greatly improving the bioavailability of the drug at the site of infection.

This method can also be effective for other diseases.

This new technique can not only prove useful in the treatment of TB, but can also prove helpful in the treatment of other brain infections, neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's), brain tumors and epilepsy.
