England vs Australia, Lord's Ground, and the controversy over the Australian wicketkeeper. A new angle has now been added to the world's oldest cricket rivalry. For the last 140 years, stories of the clashes and tensions between the two teams in the Ashes series are famous in the world of cricket. There have been heated arguments, controversies, and allegations of dishonesty. This has been happening in the Test series but there is no dearth of rivalry between the two in the ODI format as well. Now a new aspect has been added in the form of controversy over the actions of Australian wicketkeepers at Lord's. After the Alex Carey-Jonny Bairstow controversy in the first Lord's Test last year, now there is a ruckus over the appeal for a catch by Australian keeper Josh Inglis in an ODI match.

These days, an ODI series is being played between England and Australia, in which Australia is ahead 2-1 after three matches. The fourth match of the series was played on Friday, 27 September at Lord's in London. In this match, Australia bowled first and did not give England a chance to bat freely in the beginning. The Australian bowlers also took the wickets of Phil Salt and Will Jacks on low scores. At such a time, Harry Brook, who became the captain of England for this series, came to the crease. Brook gave a fast start but then came the moment that became controversial.

In the 17th over, the fourth ball of fast bowler Mitchell Starc was flicked by Brook towards the leg side but he was unsuccessful. The ball touched the bat slightly and went behind the wicket but keeper Josh Inglis dived towards that side and caught the ball. Australian players including Starc and Inglis started appealing for the catch. The umpire sought help from the TV umpire in this matter and everything became clear here. The TV replay clearly showed that the ball had touched the ground just a few centimeters before going into the gloves. That is, it was not a clear catch and Brook was given not out.

Then what happened, England fans started hooting and shouting slogans against Australia all over Lord's. Australia started getting accused of cheating on social media as well. This reminded us of last year's Lord's Test when England's batting Jonny Bairstow left the crease immediately after playing a ball and started walking outside and keeper Alex Carey ran him out. There was a lot of uproar over this and Pat Cummins' Australian team was accused of dishonesty as well as insulting the spirit of the game. Alex Carey was severely criticized by English fans in the remaining matches of that Ashes series. Incidentally, Carey was on the field this time too but he was not keeping.
