Bihar Crime: A prisoner returning from court hearing was given a cold drink, he died a short while later, family said - this is murder

After drinking it, the prisoner's health deteriorated. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. The relatives of the deceased are calling it a murder.

A case of suspicious death of an undertrial prisoner has come to light in Purnia, Bihar. The deceased prisoner was lodged in Araria jail for the last 5 years in a murder case. The deceased has been identified as Vivek Kumar alias Lal Yadav, age 23. The prisoner was being taken back to Mandal jail after appearing in Supaul Civil Court. The family has accused Vivek's friends of killing him by poisoning his cold drink. At the same time, after this incident, questions have started being raised on the custody of Araria Jail Police.

Regarding the incident, the deceased's brother-in-law Dr. Vinod Kumar said - Vivek was serving a jail sentence in Araria divisional jail for the last 5 years in a murder case. He was to be released soon. Vivek was taken from the divisional jail to Supaul Civil Court on Wednesday for hearing. After the hearing, some friends came to meet him and they gave him a cold drink.

He alleged that his friends mixed poison in this cold drink. After drinking it, his health started deteriorating. Seeing this, the jail police took him to GMCH Purnia for treatment instead of bringing him to the divisional jail, where he died during treatment. The jail police then informed them about this. By the time the family reached after getting the information, Vivek had already died. The deceased's brother-in-law told that Vivek's father Shiv Kumar Yadav died of illness in the last month of September. The father was the former pramukh of Saraigarh Bhaktiyahi block of Supaul.

The family members said that they were also present with Vivek when he was going to court for hearing. During this time, they also took photos and videos of Vivek. Vivek was completely healthy. After the death of the prisoner, his 4-second video has also surfaced, in which he is drinking a cold drink while sitting in a police van. The family members said that when Vivek was being taken to Supaul in police custody, some of his friends gave him a cold drink to drink. It is alleged that he was murdered by mixing poison in the cold drink.

At present, the post-mortem of the deceased's body is being conducted under the supervision of a magistrate. The officials present at the spot have clearly refused to say anything on this matter.
