Hyundai's cars will run on batteries made in India, the deal done with this company
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has partnered with Amara Raja Energy and Mobility Limited to use Made-in-India AGM battery technology in its vehicles under Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Which will start from the fourth quarter of FY 2024-25.
With this, HMIL has become the first Indian automaker to introduce Made-in-India AGM battery technology, furthering its commitment towards localisation of world-class technology for Indian customers in line with the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. HMIL said in a regulatory filing today that Amaron's India-made AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery technology will be used as SLI (starting, lighting and ignition) batteries and will be procured under the automaker's existing purchase agreement with Amara Raja, a comprehensive solution provider in the energy and mobility sector.
The automaker said that HMIL aims to equip its models with indigenously manufactured AGM batteries in the fourth quarter of FY 2024-2025, making it the first auto OEM in India to use localised AGM technology. The move is in line with HMIL's dedicated efforts towards localisation and introducing locally sourced innovative technologies to Indian customers, the company said.
With a wide operating temperature and durability, AGM batteries are suitable for dynamic Indian driving conditions, the company said in the filing. Speaking on the partnership between the two companies, Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, HMIL, said, “At Hyundai Motor India Limited, adopting new technology to exceed the constantly evolving customer expectations has been our core work.”
