Experience Iceland with Reykjavik city break from £139pp including return flights

Iceland is a bucket list destination for many of us keen to experience the dramatic landscapes, bursting geysers and incredible wildlife. Steep prices tend to be something that holds a lot of us back - but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way.

A brilliant trip to Iceland's iconic Reykjavik is now the subject of a pretty stunning deal through Wowcher, letting you sample the city but also throwing in a superb whale-spotting tour if you're happy to spend a little extra. Without that, though, you can grab the trip including your return flights from just £139pp for a short stay - which is pretty crazy value.

That will net you a two, three or four-night stay in Iceland, with flights available from Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted Airports - which should mean you can find a convenient option. The quote of £139pp is just a starting price - this will change depending on the dates you select and how long you go for.

In Reykjavik, you'll be staying in either the Fosshotel Lind or the Hotel Laxnes, both of which are three-star hotels. The former is what most people seem to have opted for, and some of the reviews left by Wowcher users showcase just how good a time they've had. One happy visitor wrote: "Definitely recommend this hotel: Lovely friendly staff, comfortable beds, breakfast was amazing, always clean, housekeeping on request, great restaurants close by, a few minutes walk into Reykjavik." That's quite a list of qualities.

Another guest said: "The Fosshotel Lind is in a great location for all the amenities and local sights. The famous bus stop 13, is literally on your doorstep around the corner for your excursions." So it sounds like it's ideal for use as a base as you explore the city.

Some guests have more critical notes, of course, like one who wrote in the reviews section of the hotel on Guide to Iceland: "The bathroom was extremely small, making showering a bit of a challenge." This is something others have mentioned too, so if you like a big bathroom you may wish to bear this in mind.

The other hotel option, the Hotel Laxnes, also has some rave reviews, and one person on Wowcher said: "Amazing stay: Would definitely recommend and would come back without a second thought!" That said, one critical review mentioned "The location was beautiful, just not ideal for excursions as the bus station drop-off point was nowhere near the hotel." So, it might be worth researching your plans ahead of arriving, so that you know where you need to be.

Whichever of the two hotels you stay in, though, you'll get the chance to really see Iceland - and to be able to do that for less than the cost of many holidays to far more familiar locations like Paris or Berlin. When you consider that additional option of whale-watching, and the chance to see amazing sights like the aurora borealis if you're lucky, it becomes a hard deal to ignore.

Wowcher won't have availability on the deal forever, either, so if you think an Iceland break could work for you, be sure to get your dates booked in as soon as possible. Before booking, it's worth having a good look at Wowcher's terms and conditions - the price is advertised based on two people sharing, so you'll need to book two vouchers to qualify for the deal. You'll also need to move quickly and redeem the voucher within 48 hours of purchasing it - and all holidays, hotels and flights are subject to availability. The price is also subject to change, and the deal will be live on the site until October 31.

As an extra incentive, if you purchase a voucher between now and September 15, you'll be entered into a competition to win an Amsterdam city break for two people. One thing's for sure - potentially having your next two holidays lined up is a surefire way of making a damp summer a whole lot better.
