ITV Coronation Street boss warns 'it doesn't end well' as Leanne set for revenge
's Leanne Battersby is poised to exact revenge on her sister Toyah and former flame Nick, but it "doesn't end well for anyone".
Soap icon Leanne (Jane Danson) has had a tumultuous year on the cobbles. Viewers will remember how she was drawn into the enigmatic 'self-help' group, The Institute, under the leadership of the ominous Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper).
Leanne became deeply involved in the cult, prioritising The Institute over her family and loved ones, including her fiance Nick (Ben Price) and sister Toyah (Georgia Taylor).
The duo expressed their worries about Leanne, particularly when Toyah was diagnosed with germ-cell ovarian cancer. With no one else to turn to, Nick and Toyah began to grow incredibly close, leading to an unexpected turn of events.
After sharing a surprise kiss, the pair ended up in bed together. However, they were caught in the act by Rowan, who took a photo of them in a passionate embrace, reports .
Revealing his 'true' intentions, Rowan blackmailed Nick into investing in The Institute's new resource centre. But as is typical in soap operas, the truth about Toyah and Nick was uncovered by Leanne, leaving her both heartbroken and furious.
Since then, things seemed to have calmed down for Leanne, Nick and Toyah. Recently, however, Nick and Toyah reignited their romance and plan to come clean to Leanne.
However, the recent actions of Nick and Toyah may lead to serious repercussions as Coronation Street's executive producer Kate Brooks reveals that Leanne "wants to make them pay". In a festive teaser, Kate gave a hint about whats in store for the trio, cautioning that when Leanne seeks vengeance, "it doesn't end well for anyone".
Speaking about the upcoming drama, Kate revealed: "You've got Leanne, who's got her suspicions about Nick and Toyah, and I felt it was really important to see a different side to Leanne. She's had a very tough year, she's had The Institute which was all-consuming in many ways, but she's a Battersby and she's scrappy and she's feisty."
Kate went on to say: "And Toyah is so good and so brilliant and wonderful, and she sees the life that she had just being taken away from her."
"And rather than go down the route which is expected, of her taking it on the chin or moving on, she really wants to make them pay and she is really intent on getting her own revenge."
"Nick's betrayal is one thing, but the betrayal of a sister is huge, and I just love that dynamic between Toyah and Leanne, I think it's fantastic. That all comes to the forefront on Christmas Day and it doesn't end well for anyone."
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
