10 involved in Raniganj violence arrested
Prayagraj: Pratapgarh police on Thursday arrested as many as 10 persons, including two women, who were allegedly involved in the Raniganj violence that left around a dozen people, including four policemen, injured.
Four policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police, were among a dozen people injured in stone pelting by a mob that went berserk while protesting over the suspicious death of a 22-year-old woman in Pratapgarh on Friday. The protesters alleged that the victim, who worked at a multi-speciality hospital in Durgaganj for the past four years, was allegedly raped and murdered by a fellow staff member. The mob resorted to violence when police tried to take the body for autopsy.
The arrested persons, identified as Ram Sajiwan, Santosh Saroj, Sanjay Saroj, Akhilesh Saroj, Dharamraj Saroj, Shani Saroj, Sharda Saroj, Madhuri Saroj, Yogiraj Singh, and Mithilesh Gautam alias Baccha, were residents of Raniganj.
Additional SP (Pratapgarh East) Durgesh Kumar Singh told reporters that after scanning CCTV footage and on the basis of mobile locations, cops arrested as many as 10 persons regarding the Raniganj violence incident. He added that five out of the 10 arrested persons had a criminal sketch.
