Prayagraj: At a time when the Uttar Pradesh govt announced a ban on the sale of meat and the operation of slaughterhouses within a 500-metre radius of temples and religious sites in municipal areas, all meat shops and slaughterhouses within the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation limits will remain completely closed on April 6, during celebration of Ram Navami.

The govt emphasised strict enforcement of this order, urging citizens to cooperate to ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully and with due reverence. In addition to the ban, the govt set up a 10-member committee, headed by the District Magistrate, to tackle illegal slaughterhouses and unauthorised animal slaughter. The committee will conduct inspections of registered slaughterhouses, monitor animal counts, and ensure that no illegal slaughtering activities occur outside the designated areas.
