Chhath Puja restricted in 2 Dibrugarh ghats due to increase in B'putra's level
Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh district administration on Wednesday imposed restrictions on Chhath Puja celebrations at two of the major river ghats due to a rise in water level of the Brahmaputra.
Dibrugarh east revenue circle officer Samujjwal Borah said that the devotees can perform their rituals at five designated ghats in the district. "We have authorised five ghats for this year's Chhath Puja celebrations — Panchali ghat, Paltan Bazar ghat, Tinkunia ghat, Maijan Thakurbari ghat and the Brahmaputra and Sessa ghat," stated Borah. Mohana ghat and Kachari ghat have been excluded from the list.
The district administration has initiated extensive preparations to ensure a safe and smooth celebration. Workers are actively engaged in cleaning the designated areas and installing safety barricades, along the riverbanks, to prevent any mishap during the festivities.
"Many devotees are planning to create makeshift arrangements at home this year. Small water-filled ponds will be constructed within residential premises to maintain the sacred rituals of Chhath Puja," said Manju Kumari, a resident from Paltan Bazar.
Chhath Puja, which traditionally draws thousands of devotees to the Brahmaputra, holds deep religious significance. Also known as ‘Dala Chhath' or ‘Surya Shashti', this Hindu festival spans four days and is dedicated to worshipping the Sun God.
Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi has urged devotees to cooperate and utilise only those ghats which are authorised.
