Govt conducts ADR exams amid internet suspension, strict security

Guwahati: Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) for Grade III posts was held in 2,305 centres across the state on Sunday, amid suspension of mobile internet services for three-and-a-half hours and tight security, without any untoward incident.

Over 11.23 lakh candidates were eligible to appear for the examination in 2,305 centres across the state, of which 429 centres were marked as ‘sensitive’ due to their location and history of cheating or malpractices.

Soon after the exam ended at 1.30 pm, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on his X handle: “The first ADRE exam has concluded peacefully. My deepest gratitude to all the officers and staff of the Assam govt, who have successfully completed this monumental task without any issues. I once again assure our younger generation that transparency will remain our hallmark when it comes to govt recruitment.”

Besides suspending mobile internet services to prevent any possible question paper leak, strict screening of candidates entering the exam centres was done and no articles, except pen, pencil, admission card and identity proof were allowed inside the venue.

Strict CCTV surveillance and proper videography of the examination were arranged at the centres, while prohibitory orders against gatherings, within a 100 m radius of the venues, were promulgated.

It is pertinent to mention that mobile internet services had been previously suspended during the 2022 ADRE.

Candidates were seen queuing up outside the examination centres from early in the morning. Gates were scheduled to open an hour before the exam, which began at 10.30 am.

The state home department in an official order said, “Mobile internet services were suspended as on earlier occasions some unscrupulous elements resorted to unfair means, using different mobile applications which are based on internet/Wi-Fi connectivity.”

The northeast frontier railways operated 12 special trains and extended the destination of four regular trains for the convenience of candidates appearing for the examination.
