Churu priest arrested for woman's murder

Jaipur: The Churu police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old priest in connection with the suspicious death of a woman inside the temple premises. The police identified the accused as Deepak Sharma, a native of Bhoori ka Bas in the Buhana police station area of Jhunjhunu district.

According to SP (Churu) Jai Yadav, Narendra Kumar Prajapat, a resident of Ward No. 35, filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station on Sept 5. Prajapat said that his elder brother Yogesh's wife, Poonam, had visited the Gogamedi Temple for bhajan when she suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed. She was rushed to Bhartiya Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Following the complaint, a case was filed, and probe commenced, Yadav said.

Upon examining the crime scene, recording witness statements, and observing the injuries on the deceased's body, the police deemed the death suspicious. Yadav said a team led by additional SP, Lokendra Dadrawal, and circle officer, Sunil Kumar Jhajharia was constituted to uncover the truth.

The accused had fled the temple, but the police apprehended him at Ramnagar Tiraaha in Churu while he was trying to escape to Delhi by bus. Initial investigations revealed a close relationship between the accused and the deceased. Sharma confessed that the motive behind the murder was Poonam's refusal to allow him to leave Churu and her threats to implicate him if he did so.
