Jhansi: A junior doctor's hand suffered fracture and several attendants sustained injuries following a violent altercation that had erupted between junior doctors and relatives of an elderly patient with severe burn injuries. The patient succumbed on the intervening night of April 1/2.

While junior doctors accused the patient's attendants of misconduct, the latter alleged improper treatment. According to details, the patient, an octogenarian Jugal Sahu from Lalitpur who sustained eighty percent burn injuries, was brought to Jhansi medical college late at night. During treatment, his sons Rameshwar and Ankit alleged negligence by doctors, sparking an argument with the junior residents, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

While several family members sustained bruises, a junior doctor suffered a hand fracture. The police were summoned for intervention. Chief medical superintendent Dr Sachin Mahour stated that Jugal was previously undergoing treatment for paralysis in the medical college. The family members were attempting to exert unwarranted pressure. Subsequently, junior resident Anshu Chauhan, who was departing after completing his duty, was assaulted by family members, resulting in the fracture.

The station officer of Nawabad police station reported that both parties subsequently reached an amicable settlement; hence no formal complaint was registered.
