Accused in murder attempt case arrested after 15 years

Kochi: The rural police of Ernakulam apprehended a man who had evaded arrest for 15 years in connection with an attempted murder case. The arrested person was identified as Jasir, 39, of Tirur, Malappuram. The incident occurred in Jan 2009, when the accused and his accomplice stopped and attacked a person named Muhammad, who was travelling on a scooter, at Pezhakkappilly.

There were eight suspects involved in the incident. All except the second suspect, Jasir, were arrested earlier. The investigation was led by Muvattupuzha DSP P M Baiju, with inspector Basil Thomas and SIs M V Dileep Kumar, M M Ubaid, SCPO Dhanesh B Nair, and B Haris as part of the team.

Man held with 2kg ganja: A 34-year-old man was arrested with approximately two kilograms of ganja on Friday. The arrested person was identified as Muhammad Faiz, who was staying at a rented house in Aluva.

He was taken into custody by Thadiyittaparambu police during a raid based on a tip-off. Police caught the accused as soon as he arrived to sell ganja on his scooter at Kizhakkambalam. During the check, the police found plastic bags containing ganja concealed beneath the seat of the two-wheeler.

There are cases against him in the Edathala and Eloor stations as well, said the police. The investigation team included inspector A L Abhilash, SI A B Satheesh, ASIs K A Noushad, K B Shameer, senior CPO K K Shibu, and CPOs Muhammad Noufal, K R Vipin, Mithun Mohan, and Robin Joy.

Two held for theft: Ernakulam rural police arrested two men for theft at a supermarket on Friday. The arrested were identified by the police as Riyas, 23, from Chalakudy and Thanseer, 25, from Kodungallur. The theft occurred on Nov 22 night at a supermarket in Nellimattom. The suspects broke the sliding glass door to enter and stole Rs 21.5 lakh and a mobile phone from the supermarket.

Riyas is a suspect in over 38 cases across various police stations in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, while Thanseer has around 20 cases against him. The investigation team was led by Muvattupuzha DYSP P M Baiju and included officers P A Sudheesh, Kuriakose, and CPOs Abhilash Sivan and Dayish Niju.
