Food safety officials await autopsy report
Kochi: Food safety authorities in Ernakulam are awaiting the autopsy report of the three-year-old girl who died allegedly of food poisoning in Thrissur on Monday morning. Pudukkad native Olivia and her family ate at a hotel in Angamaly on Saturday morning and the family alleged that she died because of the food consumed at the hotel. However, the food safety authorities found that the family ate from other sources as well.
After eating at the hotel, the family consumed food they cooked the day before and kept in the freezer after reaching home. They also had food, including non-veg items and ice cream.
The girl fell on Saturday evening, hitting her head. She vomited on Sunday night and they took her to a nearby hospital. However, upon returning home, the girl vomited again, her condition worsening.
Though the family rushed her to a hospital, they couldn't revive her despite repeated attempts by the doctors. "We don't know the cause of death yet. We also don't know whether the family provided treatment to the girl when she hit her head on Saturday night," said a food safety officer.
As a precautionary measure, the hotel where the girl ate was closed following the allegation raised by the family.
