Sanatana Dharma should be discussed: Govindan

Kottayam: CPM state secretary M V Govindan, while inaugurating the CPM district conference, advocated for the discussion on Sanatana Dharma. He said that there should be no misunderstanding that discussing Sanatana Dharma is dangerous.

"The exact meaning of Sanatana Dharma is the chaturvarnya system based on Manusmrithi. In fact, it is obscene in this era. Was there anything in Sanatana Dharma that improved the lives of the poor in India, including Kerala? Did the agricultural workers of Kerala come forward as part of Sanatana Dharma?," he asked.

"NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair says that customs cannot be changed. If customs had not been changed, there would have been no Mannath Padmanabhan, who was a renaissance hero who fought against the evil customs. He emerged by leading the agitation for the downtrodden by being part of the upper caste," Govindan said.

He said the RSS was trying to create a Hindutva nation by 2025, the centenary year of the Constitution, through a constitution-based on a chaturvarnya system, which is based on Manusmrithi. "But the Indians did not allow that. The main aim in the national politics is resisting the BJP," he said.

Govindan also said that criticism and self-criticism are necessary for the growth of the party. Every party conference is a renewal process. Its basis is criticism and self-criticism, he said.
