Kottayam: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan said that SNDP need not comment on the controversy between Nair Service Society (NSS) and Sivagiri Mutt regarding dress code in temples.

Speaking to the media at Kanichukulangara on Friday, Natesan stated that there was nothing new in what Swami Satchithananda said. He said that the Swami expressed his view during a speech and the CM supported it.

"Sukumaran Nair expressed his view against that of Swami, and Sivagiri Mutt replied to this as well. The issue is closed now," said Natesan.

Changes in customs and traditions are happening, but does anyone think that changes can be made in a day, he asked. Citing changes at Guruvayur and Vaikom temples, he said it is happening gradually. Natesan said SNDP had decided on a dress code in their temples much earlier. They had also passed a resolution in support of wearing shirts while entering their temples. SNDP implemented this much earlier, he added.

"Various sections in the Hindu community have different customs and traditions. Despite these differences, Hindus should unite," he said. When asked about Sanatana Dharma, he said he was not a scholar to speak about it.

Sukumaran Nair crossed the limits when he said Ramesh Chennithala is the son of NSS, Natesan opined. "If he is the son of NSS, then in politics he will have to work for NSS. A son will work for his father only," he said.
