Peepal Chowk road yet to be repaired, locals stage protest

Ludhiana: Residents of 33 Foota Road, Peepal Chowk, on Wednesday gheraoed municipal corporation’s sub-zone office in Cheema Chowk and raised slogans against the B&R branch officials over non-construction of the broken road in the area. The corporation officials have assured the people that the road reconstruction work will start soon once the tender is floated.

According to the residents of the area, the said road was constructed about 12 years ago and five years after the construction, it had started breaking. Since then, the corporation officials have been trying to repair this road through patch work, but now even the patchwork on the road does not last for a long time. Due to the dilapidated condition of the road, people are facing difficulties.

There is a constant fear of two-wheeler drivers to meet with any accident. According to the residents, they have been demanding construction of this road from the MC officials and public representatives for about two years, but nothing has been done and they have been forced to stage a protest.

Meanwhile, executive engineer (XEN) Rakesh Singla said an estimate had been prepared for reconstruction of the said road and soon tender process would be completed and the construction would start.
