Govt creating schemes to improve education standards: Stalin

Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin, on Tuesday, said that the state govt is creating schemes from primary to higher education to improve education standards in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing an event at Alagappa University in Karaikudi on Tuesday, Stalin listed the schemes of the DMK govt for the education sector, like Puthumai Pen, Tamil Puthalvan, and Nan Muthalvan, and added that the state has the highest number of state universities, more than 500 reputed engineering institutions, and the highest number of medical colleges in the country.

He encouraged youngsters to start libraries in their localities and promote reading among the young generation. Libraries and reading rooms would pave the way for modern thinking and development, said the chief minister.

Stalin promised former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram, that he would send 1,000 books from his personal collection, while the state govt would support the library.

Commenting on the Thiruvalluvar statue, Stalin said that there are elements trying to hijack Tamil personalities like Thiruvalluvar and Vallalar into their folds. These groups are conspiring to steal these leaders who advocated equality, and every Tamil should stand up against such efforts. Tamil Nadu and the world can be protected when we start following the values of Thirukural, he added.

Stalin inaugurated the Lakshmi Developmental Tamil Library, constructed by Chidambaram from his personal funds of 12 crore on the university campus. He also unveiled the statue of Thiruvalluvar, installed by the university alumni at a cost of 50 lakh on the university premises.

He named the meeting hall in the graduation block after Tamil poet Mudiyarasan and released a compilation of research articles submitted at the Kalaignar Centenary function held earlier.

State ministers K N Nehru, Thangam Thennarasu, S Regupathy, K R Periakaruppan, M P Saminathan, R S Rajakannappan, Govi Chezhian, V Meiyanathan, Sivaganga MP Karti Chidambaram, and others were present.
