HC junks plea for electric train project in Trichy
Madurai: The Madras high court on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation seeking a direction to the state government to implement an electric train project in Trichy.
The petition was filed by M Mari alias Padmanaban from Trichy district, who cited daily traffic congestion caused by a growing population. He argued that the project would ease travel for school students, office-goers, and tourists visiting temples and other attractions in the region.
The petitioner claimed he had submitted a representation to the authorities, but no action was taken, prompting him to move the court.
A division bench of Justices J Nisha Banu and S Srimathy dismissed the plea, terming it ‘vexatious'.
