Madurai corporation students take 'Green Walk' to Keelakuilkudi
Madurai: In a bid to make summer vacations more meaningful, around 170 students and 10 teachers from Madurai corporation schools participated in a ‘Green Walk' to the ancient Jain beds at Keelakuilkudi on Tuesday.
The eco-awareness event was flagged off from Ilango Corporation Higher Secondary School by mayor Indrani Ponvasanth. Organised by Madurai corporation, the initiative aimed to combine learning with heritage and environmental awareness.
Students walked to the centuries-old site nestled in the rocky outskirts of the city. Corporation education committee chairperson M P R Ravichandran and city educational officer M Jeyashankar accompanied the team during the visit. A senior corporation official said that the corporation planned a series of summer engagement programmes — from career guidance and sports meets to creative workshops and awareness sessions — to help students make the most of their vacation.
Intermediate teachers from city schools also began a three-day training on the "Ennum Ezhuthum" literacy initiative, launched at Ponmudiyar Girls Higher Secondary School with support from the district education department in T Kallupatti.
