Guard acts swiftly, puts out fire at VMC HQ

Vadodara: A fire was reported in the lobby of the VMC HQ in Khanderao Market on Thursday, but timely intervention by a security guard ensured that the fire did not spread.

The civic body has installed overhead cable trays through which cables for computer networking, telephones, and others pass. On Thursday morning, smoke started coming out of the tray, and a fire was spotted in it. The incident took place outside a conference room.

A security guard who was present there used a fire extinguisher and brought the blaze under control immediately. Sources said that there was no disruption of IT or other services.

The reason for the fire was not known immediately, but it is believed to be a short circuit.
