Bhagwat to perform 'Kanyadaan' of 111 girls in Kashi on Akshay Tritiya
Varanasi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will perform the rituals of kanyadaan of 111 girls from underprivileged families, including 30 tribal girls from Sonbhadra district, at Sankuldhara pond on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya on April 30.
The mass marriage ceremony is being organised by RSS senior functionary, Kshetra Karyawah Virendra Jaiswal. He said that in view of Bhagwat's repeated appeals to care for the weaker sections of society instead of wasting money on pomp and show during family functions, he avoided holding a reception party for his youngest son's marriage and decided to perform Kanyadaan for girls from poor families.
"My son's marriage took place in December. When my family was busy finalising preparations, I proposed to perform Kanyadaan for a poor girl instead of spending the money on a grand feast," said Jaiswal. "I made the Sangh Chief aware of my decision and invited him to perform the rituals of Kanyadaan," said Jaiswal. His team assessed the financial condition of all those who contacted them.
All the wedding rituals will take place in the presence of Bhagwat between 4 pm and 8 pm. Afterward, the RSS chief will bless the newlywed couples, said Jaiswal, adding that the entire Sankuldhara and Khojwa area will be decorated for the event and a grand feast will be hosted .
