Two die under mysterious circumstances

Vijayawada: Tragedy struck a family during a funeral near Chamarru village in Achampeta mandal on Wednesday, as a man and his brother-in-law died under mysterious circumstances.

According to Achampeta circle inspector Venkata Prasad, 80-year-old Gouthukatla Kotaiah passed away on Tuesday due to age-related health issues. During his funeral, his son Nageshwara Rao (46) and son-in-law Mekala Nageshwara Rao (35) reportedly consumed alcohol. Shortly after, both men began complained of severe vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhoea.

The duo was rushed to a local govt hospital for treatment but succumbed during treatment. The cause of their death remains unclear, with police awaiting post-mortem reports. A case of suspicious death was registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances, the CI said.
