Vijayawada: A few days after the suicide of Seeram Datta Praneeth, a fourth-year MBBS student at NRI medical college in Sangivalasa, his parents raised serious allegations against the college management and govt authorities.

At a press meet in Vijayawada, Praneeth's parents, Rajeswara Rao and Umadevi, expressed deep suspicions surrounding their son's death and alleged sustained harassment by the college authorities. They accused the college's dean and vice-principal of harassing their son, which they claimed, led to his death. They alleged that the college management cleaned the site of the suicide and erased all evidence. They also claimed that the dean PA Sudhakarhad earlier faced allegations of sexual harassment and yet, no action was taken against him.

The grieving parents of the deceased criticised the police for yielding to pressure from public representatives of the ruling party, who, they claimed, were shielding the college management. They also condemned the silence of HRD minister Nara Lokesh and home minister Vangalapudi Anitha on the issue.
