Alia Bhatt has finally debuted on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival 2025 - and we’re all for it! She posed for the cameras in her stunning beige floral gown with white intricate details, sleek hair bun and the glaring kaala teeka.

Alia Bhatt and her Kaala TeekaWhile the look has been receiving all the applause, what stole the spotlight was the little black teeka behind her left ear. For the unversed, the kala teeka is traditionally used for warding off the evil eye. Alia’s debut look at the 78th Cannes wasn’t the first time she wore the teeka. Previously, Bhatt wore the traditional dot during the Met Gala 2024, where she wore a Sabyasachi saree.

While Bhatt’s MET Gala debut was in 2023 in a pearl gown, her 2024 look with a saree, whose train of pallu is as long as the gates of heaven, is deemed as iconic. For the ‘Garden of Time’ theme, Alia wore an intricately woven floral saree, embellished with jewels, and a kaala teeka that impressed the fans. When noticed by netizens, they were quick to laud her for honouring her Indian traditional roots at a global level.

A mention of Janhvi Kapoor's Kaala Dhaaga
Alia Bhatt joined the Indian actresses Aishwarya Rai and Janhvi Kapoor at the Cannes Film Festival. Following Bhatt’s footsteps, Janhvi Kapoor made headlines for wearing a kaala dhaaga on her wrist during the red carpet. A not-so-minimal look of pistachio green colour and golden details, with the chunky jewellery and a traditional black thread, Janhvi Kapoor won the hearts as well.

The audiences are praising the Indian celebrities for highlighting and honouring the traditional Indian roots at a global level. While some might rather argue, the actresses proudly posed around the hundreds of cameras, blending culture and flair.
