Will Stephen Curry play against the Memphis Grizzlies tonight? Latest update on the Golden State Warriors star's injury report (January 4, 2025)
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been listed as “out” for his team’s upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The 36-year-old has been dealing with bilateral knee tendinitis at this late stage of his career. As a result, the Warriors have decided to rest him for back-to-back games this season. Curry’s rest tonight comes as a shock, considering his stellar display against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Steph shot a perfect 8/8 from the three-point line and also recorded 10 assists becoming the only player to do so. Moreover, he even took Michael Jordan as the guard with the most 30-point games after turning 35. While Curry might’ve been on one against Philadelphia, his performance this season has been well below his standards. He is currently averaging 22.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 44.7% from the field. Curry is also making 41.8% of his 10.4 three-pointer attempts per game.
It is worth noting that Stephen Curry does all of this while playing just 31.2 minutes per game. This indicates that the Warriors are trying to save Curry’s energy for the playoffs, though, it has to be said that the Warriors would probably win more games if Curry got more minutes. A healthy Stephen Curry paired with another star is capable of doing a lot of damage come playoff time. Tonight’s game against the Grizzlies might be the first of many this year as the Warriors often end up playing Memphis in the playoffs.
But, it might be a tough night for the Dubs since Steph isn’t the only one missing. Gary Payton II is still out with a calf injury and Brandin Podziemski is also yet to recover from his abdomen issues. With these three missing, the team will lean on Dennis Schroder and Buddy Hield to carry their backcourt. Schroder is long overdue for a big game and is currently averaging 16.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game. With Steph out of the lineup, tonight might finally be Schroder’s time to shine.
The Warriors aren’t the only ones missing their star as the Grizzlies will also be without Ja Morant. Morant is currently dealing with a grade 1 AC joint sprain and will be out of action for the foreseeable future. It’ll be interesting to see how the Grizzlies fare against the Warriors without Morant.
