Air India has become the first Asian airline to integrate Apple AirTag technology with its baggage tracking system, offering passengers a new way to locate delayed luggage. The service allows customers using compatible Apple devices to track their baggage location in real-time when items don't arrive as scheduled.

The new feature works alongside Air India's existing baggage tracking capabilities available through its mobile app and website. When luggage goes missing, passengers can report it at Air India's Baggage Counter, where staff will help file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

Passengers can then generate a "Share Item Location" link from their Apple device's Find My app and submit it through Air India's mobile app or website along with their PIR number. Authorized airport teams use this information to locate and reunite passengers with their belongings.

"As we transform into a world-class global airline, we are excited to offer our guests an innovative option to help locate their baggage in case it does not arrive at the destination on schedule," said Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at Air India.

The airline, which handles over 100 million baggage items annually with a 99.6% on-time delivery rate, developed this solution for the small percentage of luggage that gets delayed due to airport system issues, flight misconnections, or other factors.

To safeguard privacy, location sharing automatically expires after seven days or when the passenger is reunited with their baggage. Passengers can also stop sharing at any time.

To use the new tracking feature, customers need Apple devices running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.

Alternatively, passengers can access baggage information automatically by adding their flight details to the "My Trips" section of the Air India app or using the "Track my Bags" feature on the website.
