Fee hike: KSU to boycott classes at Kerala, Calicut university campuses
Thiruvananthapuram: In protest against the decision by Kerala and Calicut universities to significantly increase fees, KSU called for a boycott of classes in colleges under the universities concerned on Thursday. The fee hike is allegedly under the guise of four-year degree courses.
KSU state president Aloshius Xavier, on Wednesday, said the hike was announced contrary to the claim that there would be no fee increase with the introduction of four-year degree courses. The fees reportedly doubled and tripled, according to Xavier. He accused the universities of colluding with govt, stating that the university finance committee's decision is a challenge to students seeking higher education. He urged the higher education minister to intervene immediately and urge the universities to drop the fee hike.
KSU organized a protest at Kerala University headquarters on Tuesday, and on campuses under Kerala and Calicut universities on Wednesday. If the universities do not immediately withdraw their anti-student decision, KSU will be forced to intensify the protests, Xavier said.
