Combatting Climate Change with Trees
Climate change poses a significant threat to humanity, with agriculture being one of the most affected sectors. Recognizing the urgency to mitigate the greenhouse effect, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the "Carbon Soak and Earn Money" scheme. This initiative encourages tree plantation, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable agriculture .

How the Scheme Works
Under the scheme, farmers in Uttar Pradesh can earn between Rs 250 to Rs 350 per year for each tree they plant. The government directly transfers the funds to the farmers' bank accounts, ensuring a smooth and transparent process. Initially launched in 2023, the scheme's first phase was implemented in the Moradabad, Meerut, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Saharanpur divisions, benefiting 25,140 farmers with a total disbursement of Rs 202 crore.

Expansion to New Regions
Building on the success of the initial phase, the Uttar Pradesh government has expanded the scheme to include seven more divisions, with districts in the Varanasi and Mirzapur regions now eligible. This expansion allows even more farmers to participate, increasing the scheme's impact on both the environment and rural livelihoods.

The "Carbon Soak and Earn Money" scheme is a win-win initiative for both the environment and farmers in Uttar Pradesh. By planting trees, farmers can earn additional income while contributing to the fight against climate change, making this a pioneering effort in sustainable development.
