Owning a concrete house is a dream for many, and while some are able to achieve it, others face challenges in making it a reality. To support those in need, the Government of India provides financial aid through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY ), helping people build their own homes.

This scheme has benefited people across nearly all Indian states, with millions of citizens already constructing houses under its provisions. Recently, the list of beneficiaries from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh has been announced, and the government will soon disburse financial assistance to them.

2025 Families to Receive Rs 1.5 Lakh Each

In Hamirpur district, 3,896 families have been selected under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin . Out of these, 2,025 families will receive financial aid of Rs 1.5 lakh each to construct concrete houses. This amount will be transferred in three installments: Rs 65,000 in the first, Rs 52,000 in the second, and Rs 33,000 in the final installment. Additionally, under the MNREGA scheme, Rs 15,000 will be given to laborers involved in the construction work.

Impact So Far

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched on April 1, 2016, with the aim of ensuring that every citizen has a concrete house. The scheme operates in two parts: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin for rural areas and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban for cities. Through this initiative, the government provides financial assistance to help transform temporary or "kutcha" houses into permanent "pucca" houses.

Initially, the goal was to provide housing to all by 2022, but the scheme was extended to 2024. The central government contributes 60% of the funding, while the remaining 40% comes from state governments. As of now, 1,18,63,073 houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban scheme, with 78,26,765 homes already completed.

Eligibility for the Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is designed for citizens who do not own permanent houses. Beneficiaries include people living in slums, economically weaker sections, lower-income groups, and middle-income groups. Additionally, individuals from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minority communities, and persons with disabilities are all eligible to receive benefits under the scheme.
