Morne Morkel Appointed India’s New Bowling Coach For Bangladesh Test Series
Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been named as the new bowling coach for the Indian cricket team , with his first challenge being the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. This announcement was confirmed by Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ). Morkel will be part of a coaching team led by Gautam Gambhir , which includes Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and T Dilip.
Morkel’s appointment comes after a period of interim arrangements. He had been expected to join the team following the Sri Lanka tour, a plan that had been delayed due to personal reasons. In the meantime, Sairaj Bahutule had been travelling with the team in a temporary capacity.
Prior to this role, Morkel’s recent coaching stint was with the Pakistan national team. Additionally, he continued his involvement in T20 leagues as the bowling coach for the Lucknow Supergiants. His collaboration with Gambhir at LSG over the past two years has fostered a strong professional rapport between them.
India's cricketing schedule is set to be busy, featuring ten Test matches, including a series in Australia, various bilateral T20s, and the Champions Trophy next year. The season will kick off with the Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai, starting September 19.
In the lead-up to this series, the focus will also be on the Duleep Trophy, where many of India’s Test players are expected to compete to sharpen their skills for the red-ball format.
