Luana Alonso , a 20-year-old swimmer from Paraguay , had her Paris Olympic journey cut short after her striking appearance reportedly caused disruptions within the Olympic Village . Alonso, who had just finished competing in the women's 100m butterfly event, narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot by just 0.24 seconds. Despite her early exit, athletes typically remain in the Village until the Games conclude, but Alonso was asked to leave following complaints from the Paraguayan team manager about an "inappropriate atmosphere."

A source cited by Blast revealed that Alonso was asked to vacate her accommodation because her teammates were reportedly distracted by her glamour. The swimmer took to Instagram to announce her surprising decision to retire from competitive swimming. "It’s official now! I’m retiring from swimming. Thank you so much for the support. Sorry, Paraguay. I only have to thank you," Alonso wrote.

She also shared heartfelt reflections on her time in Paris in another Instagram post, expressing gratitude for the sport. "Swimming, thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline and many more. I gave you part of my life and I won’t change it for anything in the world because I lived the best experiences of my life," she said.

Adding to the controversy, The Week reported that Alonso made an unauthorized visit to Disneyland during the Games, which displeased Larissa Schaerer, head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee. The committee was reportedly unhappy with Alonso's focus on personal activities rather than supporting her teammates.

In an interview with Claro Sports, Alonso addressed her retirement decision, reflecting on her 18-year swimming career. "I have been swimming for so long, 18 years, and I have so many feelings. Unfortunately, I decided to stop, and I am happy that my last race will be at the Olympic Games," she stated.

Luana Alonso has been an inspirational figure for young swimmers in Paraguay, making her Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021 and holding multiple national records in butterfly events.
