Google’s NotebookLM Gets a Makeover with AI-Enhanced Features and More
Google’s NotebookLM, an AI-powered notebook web app, has introduced an innovative feature enabling users to interact with AI podcast hosts in real time. As per a recent blog post, this new addition allows users to “join” AI-generated virtual podcasts created through NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature .
The Audio Overview feature enables users to transform their documents into engaging audio discussions at the press of a button, where AI hosts converse and analyze the content. With the latest update, users can now actively participate in these conversations.

To try the feature, users must open NotebookLM, create an Audio Overview, and select the new Interactive Mode (BETA). Once the AI hosts begin speaking, users can press the ‘Join’ button to ask questions, with responses grounded in the provided sources.
While the feature is experimental, Google cautions that AI hosts may occasionally pause before responding and may include inaccuracies. It is currently available only for new Audio Overviews.
Additionally, Google is updating NotebookLM with its Gemini 2.0 AI technology and unveiling a redesigned interface. This updated layout features three panels: Sources, Chat, and Studio. The Studio panel enables users to create tools like Study Guides, Briefing Documents, and Audio Overviews with just one click.
Google has also introduced a subscription plan called NotebookLM Plus. This plan provides enhanced functionality , including five times the capacity for Audio Overviews, notebooks, and sources, along with customization options and shared notebook creation.
