Daltonganj: A miscreant decamped with around Rs 10 lakh from the Belwatiker branch of the Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank (JRGB) in Daltonganj on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. However, he left behind Rs 3 lakh in cash, police said.

The theft came to light on Monday morning when branch manager Saroj Kumari reached the office. Saroj told the Daltonganj Town police station that the footage captured by the CCTV cameras showed a masked person breaking into the office by removing a window pane and disabling both the siren system and the CCTV cameras.

Hinting at internal involvement in the heist, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Mani Bhushan Prasad said, “The bank’s chest key, which should have been with cashier MH Tigga, was left behind on the premises. Moreover, thieves don’t leave behind such a substantial amount of money.”

Police have deployed sniffer dogs and launched an investigation into the incident.

Attempts to reach the cashier were unsuccessful.
