Chatra: An FIR has been registered against 17 polling officials of Chatra on charges of negligence of election duty, deputy development commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sinha said.

The district administration had a few days earlier issued show-cause notice to officials, who were on assembly election duty, for their absence from the mandatory training programmes that were scheduled from September 18 to 24 and November 3 to 6. The authorities filed an FIR against the 17 officials under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, after receiving no response to the notice.

The action comes ahead of the November 13 poll in Simaria and Chatra assemblies.

Sinha, who also serves as the nodal officer of the personnel cell, said the training was essential for conducting polls successfully. Strict action would be taken against those neglecting such crucial responsibilities, he added.

Meanwhile, district election officer (DEO) Ramesh Gholap and superintendent of police (SP) Vikas Kumar Pandey instructed sector officers, police officers, and zonal officers on EVM handling, mock poll procedures, entry pass protocols, voter registration in Form 17A, incident reporting mechanisms, and security measures to be taken for EVMs post poll.

General observer for the 27 Chatra seat, Amritesh Aurangabadkar, stressed the importance of adequate training for the officials. Lack of knowledge could impact booth operations, he warned.
