Samantha Harvey, a British writer, won the 2024 Booker Prize for her novel "Orbital." The book tells the story of six astronauts from different countries spending 24 hours on the International Space Station.

The £50,000 prize was awarded at a ceremony in London. This year, a record five women were nominated for the prestigious English-language literary award.

The Booker Prize recognizes fiction writers of all nationalities. However, their books must be in English and published in the UK or Ireland.

Previous winners include Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood.

The prize is seen as a talent spotter of names not necessarily widely known to the general public.
