First look at Quentin Blake's beautiful illustrations being brought to life on BBC for Christmas

This Christmas brings the final two instalments of s Box of Treasures series, starring Simon Pegg and Nina Sosanya, alongside narrator Adrian Lester.

Following on from a successful debut a year ago, followed by two more animated specials at Easter, Angel Pavement and Loveykins complete the set. returns once again to voice a character, this time Sid, the story of a pavement artist and his two angelic friends Corky and Loopy who take Sid on a magical journey with their special drawing pencil.

The Mission Impossible actor said: “It’s wonderful to bring some of Quentin’s most celebrated work to life in these brand-new stories for . Angel Pavement is a bright and colourful adventure for family audiences across the UK to enjoy.”

Nina Sosanya provides the voice of Angela Bowling in Loveykins, a heartwarming tale about a woman who discovers an abandoned bird that she lavishes with care and attention.

The Good Omens actress said it had been an “absolute honour” to be a part of Quentin’s Blake’s Box of Treasures collection. She said: “Loveykins is a sweet and funny story for children and families to enjoy over Christmas. Quentin has illustrated some of the most beloved children's books of all time. It’s wonderful to see these stories come to life.”

Sir Quentin Blake says he has loved seeing his work being turned into animations. ”It’s such a treat to see my drawings brought to life with the agility I try to give them on paper,” he said. “It would be extra special to think of children and families writing and drawing their own stories. And you have to remember, it doesn’t matter what they are drawn with.”

Hustle star Adrian added: “I hope our young audiences will enjoy another round of imaginative storytelling and lovely visuals.” Both Angel Pavement and Loveykins will be available in December.

Since its launch last Christmas, Quentin Blake’s Box of Treasures has won several awards, including the Magnolia Award for Best Animation at the Shanghai Television Festival.
