'All dreams of my father will be fulfilled': BJP's Parvesh Verma pays tribute to former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma
NEW DELHI: BJP leader Parvesh Verma , who made history by defeating AAP chief and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly seat, visited his hometown, Mundka, on Sunday morning. He received a warm welcome from the villagers, who celebrated his victory. Verma also visited the Dada Bhairav Temple and offered prayers.
Speaking about the BJP's sweeping victory, Verma noted that the party had won all outer Delhi seats, drawing parallels with the 1993 elections when the BJP first came to power in the national capital.
"BJP and PM Modi have given me this opportunity to contest from New Delhi assembly seat. I congratulate all the MLAs who have been elected. All the seats of 'Bahri Dilli' (outer Delhi) have now been won by the BJP. The memories of 1993 have now been afresh... I thank all the people that you have made BJP win this many seats that we are going to form the government," he said.
The BJP secured a two-thirds majority in the 70-member Delhi assembly, marking its return to power in the city after 27 years. The ruling AAP suffered a severe setback, with several key leaders, including Kejriwal, losing their strongholds. However, Chief Minister Atishi managed to retain her seat.
Verma assured that the new government would focus on all regions, including rural Delhi, and work towards the vision of his late father, former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma , and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Our government will work for Delhi Dehaat and all the regions. All the dreams of Dr Sahib Singh Verma will be fulfilled. All the resolves of PM Modi will be fulfilled. We will beautify Delhi - our national capital," he added.
The election results were a major setback for AAP, which saw a significant drop in its numbers, while Congress once again failed to win any seats, marking its third consecutive zero in Delhi Assembly elections.
BJP's victory in Delhi comes after its recent success in Maharashtra and Haryana, further strengthening its political dominance nationwide.
The counting of votes took place on Saturday, following the elections held on 5 February.
