Mallikarjun Kharge on Delhi results: 'Public didn't give us the mandate as expected'
NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge acknowledged on Saturday that while the party managed to build opposition against the AAP government in Delhi, they failed to secure the public's mandate.
Kharge stated that the party would continue its commitment to highlight crucial issues affecting Delhi, including pollution, Yamuna cleaning, electricity, roads, water and development, whilst maintaining public engagement.
"In the Delhi assembly polls, the Congress created an atmosphere against the government in the public interest, but the public did not give us the mandate as we had expected. We accept the public opinion," he posted in Hindi on X.
"Every Congress leader and worker worked unitedly under adverse circumstances, but more hard work and struggle is still required," he further stated.
The Congress experienced its third successive electoral setback in Delhi, failing to secure any seats in the 70-member assembly and suffering significant defeats in important constituencies.
The party's performance remained unchanged from its previous outings, marking the third consecutive time it has failed to win any seats, following similar results in the 2020 and 2015 Delhi Assembly elections .
