Commentary
  • Despite India’s disciplined approach, both Brook and Smith were content to play the waiting game and refrained from offering any loose shots. With in-out fields in place, they milked the singles with ease and kept the scoreboard ticking. The only real chance India managed to create was a tough one when Pant couldn’t hold on to an edge from Smith on 121.
  • Having taken a lot of tap from Jamie Smith and Harry Brook before lunch, the break seemed to have allowed India to regroup. They managed to keep the two batters relatively quiet in the first hour, with Prasidh Krishna in particular making a conscious effort to keep the ball away from the batters. Around the hour mark, the ball was changed after it went out of shape, but that didn’t bring about a change in fortunes for the tourists.
  • SESSION SUMMARY - 106 runs in 28 overs. A sedate session in terms of run-scoring, but still a dominant one for England. India will take some encouragement from the fact that they managed to keep the scoring in check. While the first session saw a brisk scoring rate of 6.37, it dropped to 3.79 in the afternoon as the bowlers applied more control.
