The recently released romantic comedy drama Nadaaniyan starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor opened to extremely negative reviews and has been receiving brutal trolling since it started streaming on Netflix.

Now, in an interview with DNA India, Mahima Chaudhary, who stars in the film as Khushi Kapoor’s mother and reunites with Suniel Shetty after two decades, has opened up about the backlash the film is getting.

The actress compared Nadaaniyan backlash to the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal and said, “They (the negative reviews) are okay. The audience is divided. Whether it was Animal or any other film in the past, they were criticised. Some people like real cinema, some like make-believe. I sometimes wanted to watch real cinema. Sometimes I want to watch something easy. It will always be divided.”

When asked about the response she has received for her performance in the film, Mahima said, “After the film released. I called a few of my all my friends and close ones, and the majority of people have told me 'we've already watched'. I've been receiving lots of love and positive messages on my DM.”

While Mahima has compared Nadaaniyan backlash to Animal

, she seems to have forgotten one major difference between the two films — the audience’s response to Animal was polarising with many people actually loving the film while in the case of Nadaaniyan it’s an almost unanimous backlash.

Before Nadaaniyan, Mahima Chaudhary was seen in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency which released in theatres in January 2025 and bombed.

As for Khushi Kapoor, Boney Kapoor recently teased Mom 2 starring her and Ibrahim Ali Khan’s next release is Sarzameen co-starring Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
