Bihar: A disturbing incident from Bihar’s Katihar district has sparked outrage after a viral Instagram video showed a group of young men cutting off a dog’s tail, allegedly to create social media content.

The video, which quickly gained attention, prompted an immediate response from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), leading to a police complaint.

Police Identify Accused, Case Registered

Following the complaint, Katihar Superintendent of Police (SP) Vaibhav Sharma confirmed that a case had been registered, and a manhunt was underway to apprehend the accused. The individuals in the video have been identified as residents of the Pranpur police station area in Katihar.

PETA, citing animal cruelty, urged authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators. In the viral footage, three youths can be seen restraining the dog while another cuts its tail, with a Santhali song playing in the background. The organization also filed an online complaint, attaching the video as evidence.

Action Underway Against Accused

SP Vaibhav Sharma addressed the matter, stating, "The accused have been identified. Pranpur police station has been asked to register a complaint and take the accused youths into custody. Prima facie, it appears the prime accused is a minor. His number has also been found. Appropriate action will be taken under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act."

The shocking act has sparked widespread condemnation, with animal rights activists calling for strict enforcement of laws to prevent such instances of cruelty for social media fame. Police investigations are ongoing, and further action is expected soon.
